Day 6Barpo Giram –Brikchour:
Crossing the Barpu Glacier is easier than the Bualter and the walking is basically done in an ablation valley of the Barpu. The shepherd’s settlement at Chukutans is a great place for a lunch stop and marks the start of a much-improved path that runs all the way to Brikchour. In about 5 hours we will reach Brichkoor campsite, during this part of the walk we have beautiful views of Ultar, Diran, and Spantik peaks. Overnight Camping at Brikchour.
Day 6Brikchour–Rush Lake:
This is a steep relentless tough climb The trail rises in a series of zigzags directly behind camp gaining 700m up a dry and dusty path with few places to stop and rest. The trail leads directly to the crest of the ridge that separates the valley of the Barpu Glacier from the Hispar to the North. The trail turns Southwards and follows the broad crest of this ridge over a less steep group for a further 350m to reach the campsite at Chiden Haral. It takes about 6 hours to get to the campsite. The views of the peaks above the Hispar Glacier are outstanding. Overnight Camping at Rush Lake.
Day 8Rush Lake –Rush Peak Ascent (5095m):
Today after an early breakfast peak ascent start is required to get a good chance of clear skies and the best views of the more distant peaks. With favorable conditions, we should reach the top about 3-4 hours as the trail is easy for most of the way, ascending grass covered slopes and passing along the shores of Rush Lake (4,660m). The tough section is only the final 150m climb of the summit cone which needs to be climbed with care (5-7hrs round trip). Overnight Camping at Rush Lake.
Day 9Rush Lake –Gutons:
Free morning for excursions and photography, nature watching, and hiking. Afternoon descent follows the same path that was ascended. The ground is steep and dusty as the path is very ‘direct’ dropping 900m in a very short distance and it will take 3-4 hours. Overnight stay in Gutons.
Day 10Gutons–Hoppar –Gulmit:
Today we walk on the east side of the Barpu Glacier as compared to when we were going up to Rush Lake passing several large flat areas of grassland surrounded by trees. The route follows the ablation valley on the East side of the Barpu glacier. In about 4 hours we return to Hoper village after crossing the difficult Bualter Glacier and a final steep climb up a moraine.
